Melbourne – the place to be & see

Are you planning for a break or holiday abroad and not able to decide where to go ? Well, It’s your time to visit Melbourne NOW!

But why am I recommending this place of all places on earth without even being there ever in my life? The facts answers the question itself.

Melbourne is often referred as the cultural city of Australia Or because of the fact that it was ranked as the World’s Most Livable City in the World’s Most Livable Cities rating by the Economist Group’s Intelligence Unit in 2011 and back again in 2012. It was also ranked in the top ten Global University Cities by RMIT’s Global University Cities Index (since 2006) and the top 20 Global Innovation Cities by the 2thinknow Global Innovation Agency (since 2007). The metropolis is also home to the world’s largest tram network. Melbourne also hosts the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) that runs for 17 days in winters each year. The size of the film festival is second only to Cannes and it is Australia’s most critically acclaimed film festival. Melbourne is proud to be home of the world’s tallest residential building, the Eureka Tower. The tower also offers the highest viewing platform in the southern hemisphere, the Skydeck88. As the name suggests, it is on the 88th floor of the building and provides an experience not offered anywhere else in the world. Popularly dubbed as the “Edge Experience”, you find yourself in a switchable glass cube that slides out from the building. Literally, visitors to the Eureka Skydeck look at the world from a different angle. For Arts lover, Melbourne based National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has a world class collection. It also has an Ian Potter centre which was the first public art museum dedicated to Australian art.

Art, Fashion, Films, Music, Food. All these words can be used to describe Melbourne and its vibe. It is home to numerous events that are famous around the world. Being home to a multicultural population, Melbourne offers cuisine from almost every part of the world. Greek, Italian, Asian, Turkish, be it any cuisine, Melbourne has top class restaurants and chefs for all. If you want to savor the delight of Melbourne’s ecstatic beauty to its extreme potential then you must stay for at least a week. You just have to be curious enough to venture off through the city, everything is worth looking at and every place is worth being to. It’s a panorama of amazing sights waiting to be snapped by your retinas!

Would you still deny to go there? I don’t think so. Of course I wouldn’t ever deny if I get a chance to ramble off to this magical and amazing city.

Here are a few snaps, I collected from Google, Flickr and Photobucket which shall make your eyes shine with longing, your heart to skip a beat and your tongue to roll down out of your mouth like a red carpet unfurling for movie stars to step on it. 😛

  1. After watching all the videos, I like to visit ‘Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm’.
I’m fond of strawberries and I have a special liking towards farms cause I love the silence and the fresh air. The green scenery is also breathtaking. So I fall for that place.

    Nice post also…

  2. Your post has made me want to pack my bags and book my tickets to Melbourne! 🙂 I would love to see all the attractions you have mentioned above, but I want to see the graffiti scene more than anything else. I learned through the videos how liberal Melbourne is when it comes to street art. It is rare for any city to legalize graffiti. I hardly get to see any in Mumbai. I would give anything to witness the spray-can artists at work. Their form of art requires not only a good aesthetic sense, but also a sense of adventure. After all, it isn’t easy to climb water-pipes and paint on dangerous parapets! 😉

    • Thank you for commenting back Oindrila and such a lovely one too. I know I have skipped mentioning the Graffiti scene in Melbourne, since there are so many more facets to this city that one post wouldn’t just do justice to it. I agree with you about the liberalization regarding Graffiti art in public places is such that I haven’t heard of at any other place. Longing to witness the graffiti there indeed demands a worthy visit to the city. I hope you get to make it soon. It’s good to hear your thoughts, keep dropping by this world between the worlds. 🙂

  5. Great post! I want to step back to History in the era of the Victorian gold rush by heading out over the West Gate Bridge, en route to the beautiful town of Ballarat and then Sit back and relax with DVD entertainment where they’ll introducing me to Sovereign Hill, a wonderful outdoor museum exhibiting in ‘real life’ the story of Australia’s gold rush history. I envy Tanmay and Rohan as I watch the video where they revisit the 1850 iconic gold rush during their Melbourne visit!

  6. Lovely read. You have given me hell a lot of choice to choose buddy. And the way you described each and every place was not only wonderful but also end up confusing me to choose one 😛

Well, I would like to see myself standing with my love, holding her hands tight, in the Eureka sky deck and experience the Melbourne from ‘at my feet’ 😀

  7. Wonderful description and equally wonderful clicks.
I would love to visit State Library of Victoria first. The bookaddict in me would always olove to searchfor a place wherr I can belong, away from the usual hububs of the world. The peace, the smell of old and new papeprs, the stiff binding of the books…and the sweet aroma of unread words.. There is no place in the Earth which attracts me more than a massive library boasting racks and racks of books. I’d love to spend an entire day or more, just touching books and inhalomg words. More day to read the blessed pages of the books, living in the world that is so faroff from the reality.
And then, I’d like to spend an hour in Eureka skydeck, enjoying the widespread world beneath me.

I just have way too many “I want to go there” places *travel gluten* But if I had to pick one place i wouldn’t miss at any cost it would be the 12 Apostles and Loch and Gorge beach for one simple reason – The Drive! Windy long drive, symphony of waves constant company of nature all the way and yes being a poet myself this place will be a better muse for me than it was Tanmay and Rohan 😛

    • Thank you so much for the blandishing comment. Hot air balloon rides – what an absolute fun-filled choice, you’d get to hover and view Melbourne’s beauty from the viewpoint of birds. I’m quite sure that Aussies wouldn’t take safety lightly and make certain that it comes first. Wishing you all the very best for the contest. It was great to hear from you, please do visit more again. Thanks again! 🙂

  11. Lovely post and quite informative too. Nice to know about the Eureka Towers. Best of luck mate for the contest 🙂

I would like to go to the Mecca of cricket lovers, MCG. Watching India playing from the MCG gallery and raising the tri-color flag in honor of my country is like a dream. “The G”, as it is referred by the locals, holds the most enthusiastic audience who cheer every shot while rejuvenating themselves with mugs of beer. Another attraction for me to visit the MCG is that it is also the home of National Sports Museum, the largest repository of sports artifacts and history in Australia.

  12. Hi!
We know beauty never need words but without words it cannot be explained and when you get wordless after seeing it… your mouth still get open wide and WOW comes out. Dear! Your explanation about Melbourne is wonderful and picturesque description. I am a person who always attracted to nature first of any place so I would love to see the Melbourne Nature & Wildlife. The 12 Apostles rock formations is world famous rocks which changes its color in sunrise and sun set. And then I will see the Phillip Island Nature Park where I want to see the animals which I hardly see in India. I never saw Penguins, Koala and other animals.
Driving on a smooth road with natural beauty around you, it always gives you a feeling of heaven on Earth. I would love to drive on Great Ocean Road which is also famous in world to give you a scenic experience and the pleasure of that driving is amazing.

As for answering your question, I would love to visit the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Being a cricket enthusiast, I don’t think I would getter a better thrill in Australia than watching a Boxing Day Test Match live at the MCG. The Australian cricket fans are very hostile towards opposition players but are the first to appreciate a good player. I would want to sit amongst the 100,000 fans and cheer for my team. It would be even better if I got a seat next to Anushka Sharma so that if Virat Kohli scores a century and blows a kiss at her again, I would be on TV 😀

  17. Hi

If I get to visit Melbourne, walking through the lanes of city wud be no less than a picturesque ordeal for me… I’m an Art lover at heart and could not stop admiring any piece of Art around me. Since the Melbourne city walls contribute largely to its vibrant urban culture with its unique expressions of art displayed throughout the city… I’m sure I won’t feel solitude taking a walk all alone and would just keep smiling looking at the spectacular work all around. I won’t be able to stop myself clicking pics after every few steps 😉 plz take me there ^_^

  18. Hi Abhishel. That’s a pretty comprehensive post on Melbourne. From these videos, I would like to visit MCG with my son and husband who are sports enthusiasts.
MCG is home to Australian football, international and domestic cricket, concerts, special events such as international soccer and rugby matches. And that the 1956 Olympic Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games were hosted here and that it has the National Sports Museum too, the MCG truly is the epicentre of Australian sport. Seeing all this in reality (which we have been seeing on TV all these years) would be truly an enlightening, enriching and an exciting experience for us!
Have heard that MCG Tour allows the visitors to see and know all about MCG along with access to areas including player change rooms, the Ron Casey Media Centre, member only areas of the Melbourne Cricket Club such as the Long Room and a walk on the hallowed arena. It would be like walking in the steps of great sporting legends. And wouldn’t that take the sporting buffs like us on cloud 9. MCG is No. 1 on our list when we visit Melbourne!
And, we would love to explore the vineyards that date back to the 1850s and still produce long-lasting wines and the boutique wineries that produce Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. 🙂
